Every so often we take the time to review what tools we are using in our day-to-day running of Hanna Landis Designs. Web design and development, as well as graphic design and branding, require a collection of resources, both online and offline, that make up the tools of the trade.
As we evaluate these resources and try new ones, we also want to take the time to share with you some of our favorite means for creating beautiful sites, brands, and digital solutions. By far one of our preferred tools, especially when it comes to web design, is Divi Elegant Themes. If you plan to add any new asset to your web design arsenal, let it be this one. Divi Basics
At its core, Divi is a WordPress theme (one of the most popular) released by Elegant Themes. In the latest iteration, however, Divi has become so much more than just a theme. In essence, it is its own theme builder.
Divi includes a visual page builder that is far more advanced than any other we have used (and we have used a lot!). Instead of being limited to a few basic page layouts within your theme, Divi allows you to completely customize each individual page—or element—of your website.
Because it’s a visual builder, you can see what changes you are making as you go. So whether you’re a seasoned web designer or a website owner wanting to maintain your own site, Divi’s easy-to-use set up allows you to make and maintain beautiful sites.
Why We Chose Divi
One of our goals at Hanna Landis Designs is to create solutions for our clients that will work for them in the long term. We want every single one of our clients to succeed—in business, in their future goals, and in their digital presence.
This prompted us to find a solution that would give us the creative freedom to create stunning websites while giving clients the freedom to maintain and manage those sites in the long run. With Divi, we are still able to customize CSS and adjust every element of the site in order to make it unique to you. But when the web design and web development are done, the user friendly interface of Divi gives us the option of educating you on the ins and outs of your website so that, particularly if you love being hands-on with your site, you can make future updates and changes.
Does using Divi Elegant Themes mean you have to maintain your site on your own? Absolutely not. We will always offer web maintenance and digital content support so that you can focus on your business and less on details like website security and SEO.
Our Favorite Divi Features
What makes Divi Elegant Theme so powerful? While the original theme was a great tool in its own right, the newest release of Divi brings a collection of great web design resources. These are just a few of our favorites.
- Drag-and-Drop Visual Builder
You may be wondering why this makes Divi so special, there are many drag-and-drop page builders out there, right? There are, and while we always love a good drag-and-drop builder, Divi’s is especially stunning in its responsiveness and visual prowess. That’s right, prowess. Unlike other visual builders, Divi lets you see what you’re building as you build it. There’s no need to refresh your screen or continually move back and forth between the editor and your design in order to make even the tiniest adjustment. The visual builder on Divi is a true representation of what you’re building and the visual controls make editing and adjusting your design seamless.
- Ease of Use
The user friendly nature of Divi is evident in the visual builder as well as other aspects of the theme. A newly released dashboard—or control panel—is clean and simple to use, regardless of your experience with websites. You can easily change your logo, color, navigation, and even control SEO and social media plugins all in one place.
This is one of our favorite aspects of Divi as it gives us the ability to create a website that you can navigate as much—or as little—as you want.
- Custom CSS
Without advanced coding options, any theme is limited in the hands of a web designer. This theme, however, leaves plenty of room for customizations that go beyond what many themes support. As a designer, I have the ability to add the features and elements to your website that makes it unique and completely yours. Your brand, services, and products take center stage with custom CSS and a user friendly theme.
- Responsive Editing
One of the downsides of many visual editors is the inability to truly see what it is you’re building in real-time. In Divi, every element, from images to font, experiences the responsive nature of the visual builder. Even the tiniest adjustments can be seen as you make them, and reviewed for responsiveness on any device, right then and there. When editing a single element, you have the option of bulk editing as well. Instead of adjusting the size of each image one by one, bulk adjustments help maximize your design time and maintain consistency throughout your site.
- Unique Content Modules
Divi offers over 40 customizable elements to help you create beautiful CTAs, blogs, sliders, galleries, and pop-ups. This collection of modules can be customized to create the perfect content elements on your site. Instead of opting for sub-par solutions for your blog, or a contact form that truly captures you and your brand, Divi allows you to easily choose, place, and customize the content that matters most to you.
